KORE (SCULPTURE)
'Kore' (Greek - maiden; plural korai) is the name given to a type of ancient Greek sculpture of the Archaic period, the female equivalent of a kouros. The best-known example is the ''Lady of Auxerre'' at the Louvre. Unlike the nude kouros, korai are depicted in thick drapery, and often have elaborate braided hairdos.
