'Kussara' (Kuššara) was a city of Bronze Age south-eastern Anatolia. The rulers of Kuššara extended their authority over central Anatolia, conquering Hittite-speaking Kanesh, destroying Hattusa - the future Hittite capital, and subjugating territories as far north as the Black Sea.
A man named Pithana is the earliest known ruler of Kuššara and was responsible for the conquest of Kanesh (Neša). His son Anitta extended these conquests, destroyed the future Hittite capital Hattusa, and is the earliest known ruler to memorialize his achievements using the Hittite language.
After the founding of the Hittite dynasty, Labarna II (Hattusili I) in the 17th century is still called "man of Kussara" along with his title of king of Hattusa. After his unsuccessful siege of Aleppo, Hattusili returned badly wounded to Kussara, so that it may be plausible to locate it somewhere between Nesa and Aleppo.
