Original version

The song, "Kyle's Mom is a Stupid Bitch (in D-Minor)", was originally sung on Mr. Hankey, the Christmas Poo, the first Christmas episode of the show which ridiculed political correctness. In the episode, anything having to do with Christianity or traditional Christmas icons was banned from display by the mayor, including any references to Jesus or Santa Claus. These events stemmed from Kyle's mother complaining to the mayor about the local elementary school doing a play about the birth of Jesus. Cartman places all of the blame on Kyle's mother, and, when queried by Mr. Garrison for a Christmas song to sing not involving Jesus or Santa Claus, suggests "Kyle's Mom is a Stupid Bitch (in D-Minor)". When Kyle protests that there is no such song, Cartman begins singing "We-ell...Kyle's Mom's a bitch, she's a big fat bitch..." and sings the entire song.
Movie version

The song is most closely a Polka, and was also featured on '' (listed in the credits as "Kyle's Mom is a Bitch"). In the movie, Cartman sings the whole song in front of all the other kids, unaware that Sheila Broflovski (Kyle's mom) is standing right behind him. There is a punning reference to the geographic locale of King Kamehameha Beach, which Cartman changes to "super King Kamehameha-Beeyatch." In this extended version, after completing the original song, Cartman is shown performing the chorus in several different world languages, complete with "appropriate" costumes, makeup, and backgrounds. Once Sheila finds out (actually catching Cartman singing the song, just before he finishes), she places a V-chip on Cartman's brain that will shock him whenever he swears, much to his anger.

Song information

Although the title says the song is written in D-minor, it is not; the song is in a major key: it starts in C-major but modulates up a semitone each verse. The melody of the song bears some similarities to the theme song from the film ''Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'', and also bears some resemblance to the Philosophers' Drinking Song from the stage adaptations of a sketch by the British comedy troupe Monty Python called ''Bruces''.
In the movie version, the word "bitch" appears 51 times. It also occurs 12 times in other languages, making a potential total of 63 uses of the word "bitch", in 70 seconds.
The half step modulations of each verse become especially apparent once the first verse in English is sung after the foreign language verses, as by this point the timbre of Cartman's voice sounds markedly thinner and higher pitched once the pitch center has risen to E major (from the original C major at the first verse), almost as if he were speaking after inhaling helium. This would suggest that the vocal line was probably electronically transposed up to E major after first being sung in a lower key, probably because Trey Parker couldn't actually sing the verse that high up since Cartman's voice is not Parker's actual voice and is therefore much less flexible. The timbre returns to normal several bars later once Cartman sings "bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch...etc."
The familiar prolonged "well...." Cartman sings to taunt Kyle before he starts the song (in the movie) is Cartman singing a G over a G major chord followed a G augmented chord, he stops, repeats it twice, and then the song starts in C major. The song begins in C major and ends in E major (ending with a jazzy E major ending), and passes through every major key in-between the two (first C, then Db, D, Eb and then E), however it is never at any point actually in D minor as the title would suggest. Nobody cares.
