LA SEYNE-SUR-MER


'La Seyne-sur-Mer', or 'La Seyne' is a town and commune of the Var ''département'', in France. It is an industrial suburb of Toulon, SW of that port, and connected with it by rail and steamer. At the 1999 census it had a population of 60,188 and a land area of 22.17 km² (8.56 sq mi).

It owed its importance to the shipbuilding trade, the Société des Forges et Chantiers de la Mediterranée having here one of the finest shipbuilding yards in Europe (it is a branch of the greater establishment at Marseille), which gave employment to about 3,000 workers.
