'La Val (La Valle)' (Italian: ''La Valle''; Ladin: ''La Val''; German: ''Wengen'') is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the province of Bolzano-Bozen in the Italian region Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, located about 90 km northeast of the city of Trento ''(lad. Trent, de. Trient)'' and about 45 km northeast of the city of Bolzano ''(lad. Bulsan, de. Bozen)''. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 1,251 and an area of 39.0 km².^[1]
The main language is Ladin, but people speak also Italian and German, in tourist centers also some English. The religion is Roman-Catholic.
The village lives of tourism (hiking, mountain climbing, mountain biking) and agriculture. There is no ski tourism, but shuttle buses transport in winter tourists to the nearby ski resorts. There are more guests in winter than in summer.
Whereas in earlier decades the agricultural economy was to a large degree self-sufficient, it has become meanwhile more of a monoculture based on cattle.
Down the valley at the Gader river in Pederoa is a handicraft and industrial zone (shoes, textiles).
La Val (La Valle) borders the following municipalities: Badia, Mareo (Marebbe) and San Martin (San Martino).
