LADY JANET OF MAR

'Lady Janet Helen of Mar' (b. 13th December 1946), formerly 'Lady Janet Lane', is the sister of the Countess of Mar.
Lady Janet was born Miss Janet Lane, the daughter of James Clifton Lane, Master of Mar and his wife, the Mistress of Mar, née Millicent Mary Salton. She had two elder siblings: Margaret Alison Lane, and David Charles Lane.
In 1959, the Master of Mar changed his and his son's surname to ''of Mar''. The Master of Mar succeeded to the Earldom in 1965, so Margaret became Lady Margaret Artiss (she had married Edwin Noel Artiss in 1959), David became Lord Garioch, and Janet became Lady Janet Lane. However, Lord Garioch died young in 1967. Because Lady Margaret was now the heiress-presumptive to the Earldom, she and Lady Janet changed their names to ''of Mar'', and the former's husband also changed his surname.
Lady Janet married Laurence Anderson on March 22, 1969, and he took the surname ''of Mar'' on marriage. They have two daughters:
