LAKEVIEW CENTENNIAL HIGH SCHOOL

'Lakeview Centennial High School' is a secondary school located in Garland, Texas.
The school's name derives from two sources: "Lakeview" from its location near Lake Ray Hubbard and "Centennial" as it opened during the American bicentennial year of 1976. The American Revolution theme carries over to the school mascot, Patriot Pete, and the drill team name, the Yankee Doodle Sweethearts.
Lakeview Centennial, which covers grades 9 through 12, is a part of Garland Independent School District.
Lakeview Centennial has sadly received an unfortunate reputation as being an unsafe school due to an unfortunate incident a few years ago in which a student committed suicide in a school bathroom by breaking a mirror and slitting his wrists with the shards of glass. As a result, Lakeview Centenntial has no windows in its cafeteria and one of the bathrooms (the one in question) still remains mirrorless. This incident and the school's somewhat paranoid attempts to prevent a recurrence of it have earned the school the nickname "Suicide High". Also, the school motto, stating "It is a great day to be alive, and a great day to be a Patriot!" is endlessly mocked for it's opening phrase, which is viewed to be a subliminal and unnecessary anti-suicide message.
