LAWFORD

'Lawford' is a large village in the Tendring district of northeast Essex. It is around 10 miles northeast of Colchester and west of, and contiguous with Manningtree. Mistley merges with the East side of Manningtree.
The first female Rector of the village church, St Mary's (CofE) is the Rev. Pat C.M. Prestney. She is known for writing and staging plays with the Church youth. The only pub is the King's Arms.
The Leftley Housing estate, situated towards the east of the village, is a typical 1960s development of mainly semi-detached houses and bungalows. At the south west tip of the estate is Lawford Service Station. This was formally known as Cooksons Garage and at one time featured a separate general store now converted into a private dwelling.
