LEBYNTHOS
'Lebynthos' is a small island located in the east of the Aegean, between Kos and Paros, which is part of the Dodecanese islands. It is inhabited by a family that, SINCE 350 YEARS, leave off their animals, their farming and their fishing. They also run a small taverna that caters for the sailing visitors. If you are docking on the natural port and plan to spend the night there, beware of the huge mice that can take over the ship i.e. keep all windows and doors shut.
The island is mentioned in two of Ovid's works – Ars Amatoria and the Metamorphoses – in connection with the sage of Daedalus and Icarus.
In the process of escaping from Crete, the father and the son flew over number of islands, one of which was 'Lebynthos'.
