LEE GONZALES


'Lee Gonzales' is a politician from the State of Michigan. He is a Democratic Party member of the Michigan State House of Representatives. He represents the 49th District, which is located in Genesee County and includes part of the city of Flint. He is one of only two Hispanic members of the Michigan House, along with Rep. John Espinoza.

Early life


Gonzales received his bachelor’s degree in urban studies and urban administration and a master’s of public administration from the University of Michigan-Flint. He completed the Senior Executive Program at Harvard University. He is a member of the Hispanic Caucus of Genesee County, which he formerly chaired.

Political career


For seven years Gonzales was the assistant Treasurer for Genessee County. Gonzales served as Genesee County’s development director from 1992-1996. During this time he was responsible for writing the grant application resulting in the $25 million Flint/Genesee Job Corps Center. He worked as a local Government Liaison for Governor James Blanchard and as an aide to Rep. Dale Kildee. He was elected to the state House in 2004 and re-elected in 2006. He is the Chairman of the House Transportation Sub-Committee.

Personal


Gonzales and his wife Brenda have been married for 33 years. They have three children and one grandson.
