LEGNAGO
'Legnago' is a town in the Province of Verona, Italy, on the Adige river, 29 m. by rail E. of Mantua, 52 ft. above sea-level.
Legnago is one of the famous Quadrilateral fortresses. The present fortifications were planned and made in 1815, the older defences having been destroyed by Napoleon I in 1801. Its territory is fertile, rice, cereals and sugar being grown. Legnago is the birthplace of Antonio Salieri, the composer (1750-1825), Giovanni Battista Cavalcaselle, the art historian (1827-1897). It has a football club, A.C. Legnago Salus.
As of 2007, the commune has a population of 25,809.
