LEHIGH

'Lehigh' is a name applied to the Lehigh River (a tributary of the Delaware River) in Pennsylvania. The word originates from a Native American word "Lechauwekink", meaning "where there are forks in the stream." Local Pennsylvania Germans changed this to "Lechau", also spelled "Lechaw", "Lechy", or "Lehi".
