LES ABYMES

'Les Abymes' is the largest ''commune'' in the French overseas ''département'' of Guadeloupe. It is located on the west side of the island of Grande-Terre, and is part of the metropolitan area of Pointe-à-Pitre, the largest conurbation in Guadeloupe. In the 1999 census, Les Abymes had a population of 63,054. The commune has a land area of 81.25 km² (31.371 sq mi).
Pointe-à-Pitre International Airport is located in Les Abymes.
