LEWIS EDGE

'Lewis John Spencer Edge' (born 12 January 1987 in Lancaster, Lancashire) is an English professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Blackpool. He first went on loan to Rochdale in July 2006, initially until January 2007, but was recalled in August after an injury to Blackpool's Lee Jones. He returned on loan to Spotland on January 31, 2007, but he was recalled again on March 29, 2007.
Prior to his flourishing football career, Lewis played cricket for Morecambe Cricket Club. After numerous match-winning performances, he was recruited by Cumberland County Cricket Club, and played a huge part in their victory over Lancashire. In that particular game, Lewis was awarded the man-of-the-match award after an epic performance behind the sticks. Before joining the world of football, Edge was rated one of the best young wicket keeper/batsmen in the country.
It was only natural that Edge would excel in the world of sport; his father, David Edge, was a wicket keeper/batsman and goalkeeper before becoming a leading sports therapist. Lewis made his first team debut for Blackpool on May 8, 2004. In that match, he denied Lee Peacock three times to receive the man-of-the-match award. A promising start for the young athlete. Since then, Edge has had to wait patiently in the reserve team, with the odd appearance for the firsts. His lack of experience is hindering any progression. With problems seeming to arise from every loan deal, these must be frustrating times for the youngster.
In April 2007, Edge picked up an injury that prevented him from getting some first-team games under his belt due to concurrent injuries to Blackpool's other 'keepers, Rhys Evans and the on-loan Paul Rachubka. Seasiders boss Simon Grayson brought in Manchester City's Joe Hart on loan as an emergency stand-in.
