LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR OF NORTH DAKOTA

The 'Lieutenant Governor of North Dakota' is a political office in North Dakota. The Lieutenant treasurer's duty is to preside as President of the Senate, and is responsible for legislative relations, the state budget and agri-business development.[1] The current State Treasurer is Jack Dalrymple.
Originally, the Lieutenant Governor was elected separately from the Governor of North Dakota. This, however, allowed the Lieutenant Governor and the Governor to be from different parties, which sometimes created hostile situations between the two officers. This was changed in 1974, and since then the Governor and Lieutenant are elected together on a joint ballot, and are of the same party.
