LIPTOVSKý HRáDOK

History
Liptovský Hrádok arose in the 18th century and was named after its three castles. The name of the town and one of the castles (Hrádok) literally means "little castle of Liptov".
A settlement for hunters and officers was built around the castle. A salt stack was constructed in 1728 for salt from Solivar (now part of Prešov). The cast of the town was the street from the castle to the south and it continues along to the Váh River and the settlement Prekážka. Lime alley was very typical for this street and it was planted in 1777. Liptovský Hrádok – in 80th were built in the Liptovský Hrádok for the forest admiralty and the Catholic church in style Ludovit XVI.[1]
Geography and climate
The region of Liptovský Hrádok is bordered by the Veľká Fatra to the southeast, by the Low Tatras to the south, by the Chočské vrchy to the northwest, and a small part is bordered by the West and High Tatras. The town is situated in the middle of Liptovská Valley, created by the Váh River. It is the centre of northern Liptov and lies on the confluence of the rivers Váh and Bela. The altitude of the town is about 637m.
Liptovský Hrádok has a moist warm climate with an average temperature about 16 °C, while the mountain parts are colder. The temperature is about 18 – 23 °C in the summer a in the winter about the – 10 °C. The rainfalls are very frequency in this part and the weather is very unsettled. The average length of snow is about 140 days per a year.
