This 'list of tallest buildings in Miami' ranks skyscrapers in the city of Miami, Florida by height. The tallest building in the city is currently the Four Seasons Hotel Miami, which rises 789 feet (240 meters) in the Brickell district Four Seasons Hotel & Tower and is currently the 46th-tallest building in the United States. Another famous skyscraper is the Wachovia Financial Center, the city's 2nd-tallest building. Wachovia Financial Center The three tallest buildings in Florida are located in Miami: the Four Seasons Hotel, the Wachovia Financial Center and the Bank of America Tower.
Miami's history of skyscrapers is generally thought to begin with the 1925 completion of the Freedom Tower, which remains an important icon of the city through today. The City Of Miami Downtown Miami in Miami Miami is currently going through its largest building boom in the city's history. In what is being dubbed a "Manhattanization wave",[1] there are currently over 60 structures that are proposed, approved or under construction in the city that are planned to rise over 500 ft (152 m) in height.[2] The city boasts 7 completed skyscrapers over 500 feet (152 meters) tall, with another 27 under construction. Overall, Miami's skyline is ranked (based upon exising and under construction buildings over 500 feet (152 meters) tall) first in the Southeast and third in the United States, after New York and Chicago.[3] By 2010, Miami is expected to have one of largest skylines in the world. In addition, Miami currently ranks first in the United States and second in the world for the most buildings under construction that will rise at least over 500 feet (152 m), behind Dubai.[4]
The two tallest developments currently taking place in Miami are Empire World Towers and One Bayfront Plaza. The Empire World Towers are two twin towers proposed for construction. Both are planned to be completed in 2010, and would become the tallest buildings in the city if built, rising 1,200 feet (366 m). However, due to skyscraper height limits in Miami, it is unlikely that the towers will be approved at their current proposed heights. Empire World Tower I One Bayfront Plaza is a recently approved supertall skyscraper, schdeuled to be completed in 2015. One Bayfront Plaza: Redevelopment It is the tallest office tower proposed for the city, and is expected to rise 1,049 feet (320 m), with 70 floors. One Bayfront Plaza One Bayfront Plaza has the distinction of being the first skyscraper over 1,000 ft (305 m) to be approved in Miami.

Timeline of tallest buildings

The Dade County Courthouse, which served as the tallest building in the city for 44 years

There have been several buildings in Miami that have served as the tallest building in the city. While the 19-story Congress building was the first high-rise building in the city, the Freedom Tower is generally regarded as the first skyscraper in the city, and remains an important Miami icon. In recent years, the Manhattanization of the city has led to huge amount of new development. Several buildings that are currently under construction, approved, and proposed could earn the title of tallest building in the city upon completion.
