Pocket Books novels

The adaptation of ''Star Trek: The Motion Picture'' was actually published more than a year before the Bantam Books series of novels concluded, after which the Pocket Books series continued with book No. 2. A number of novels have been republished with modified titles to reflect their retroactive addition to an arc or a series, such as "The Yesterday Saga", "World's Apart", and "Rihannsu" which include novels that were originally published as standalones.
The books were republished by Titan Books in the United Kingdom, with a different numbering system, from 1987 to 1993.

The "Shatnerverse"

Beginning in 1996, William Shatner, the actor who played Captain Kirk, launched a series of novels, often referred to as the "Shatnerverse" novels. They work on the premise that Captain Kirk was brought back to life after the events of the movie '', and are not generally considered part of the continuity established by Pocket Books for their novels. The books are co-authored by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens.
