Springfield

Main articles: Springfield (The Simpsons)

'Springfield' is the setting of the series and the home of the Simpson family. It is located near Shelbyville and Capital City in a fictional state of the United States whose name is never mentioned in the series. Founded in 1796 by Jebediah Springfield, Springfield is a small city with a nuclear power plant, several schools, a variety of wealthy and impoverished neighborhoods, Moe's Tavern and Barney's Bowl-A-Rama. It is also the location of the worldwide headquarters of the Motherloving Sugar Corporation.

Shelbyville

Main articles: Shelbyville (The Simpsons)

'Shelbyville' is Springfield's neighbor and rival city. It was founded in 1796 by Shelbyville Manhattan, who advocated cousin marriage among his followers, causing a split between himself and Jebediah Springfield. An intense rivalry between the two cities continues today, especially in the sixth-season episode "Lemon of Troy", in which Shelbyville residents steal a prized lemon tree from Springfield. In several episodes, "Lemon of Troy" in particular, it is suggested that Shelbyville is somewhat an alternate universe from Springfield.

Capital City

Main articles: Capital City (The Simpsons)

'Capital City', often spelled 'Capitol City', is the capital and largest city in Springfield's state. It is a major urban center, hosting major sports events, conventions, and United Nations conferences. Its nickname is ''The Windy Apple'', derived from New York City's "The Big Apple" and Chicago's "The Windy City". Landmarks include the main Duff brewery, the "cross-town" suspension bridge, the Capital City Stadium, the Capital City Amphitheatre, and the intersection of 4th and D streets.

Bronson, Missouri

In 'Bronson, Missouri', all inhabitants look and sound like Charles Bronson. The Simpsons visited the town on their way to Branson, Missouri. One of the Bronson look-alikes uses Bronson's phrase "no dice" when asked by her son (who also resembles Bronson) if he can have some cookies. The son replies in Bronson-like fashion, "This ain't over." The Simpsons visit this town in the episode, "The Old Man and the Key".

Humbleton, Pennsylvania

'Humbleton, Pennsylvania' is a fictional town, seen in the episode "Home Away from Homer". Known as the "Home of the Humble Figurines", it is where the Flanders family briefly moved after Ned suffered embarrassment from hosting two female college sophomores who ran a soft-core porn website from their bedroom. It is home to the Humble figurines, which the Flanders family collect.
The residents of Humbleton are similar to the figurines. They required Ned Flanders to shave his moustache off (a.k.a. his "nose neighbor") as a Humbleton resident. Later on, after Homer found Ned and begged him to return, the Flanders family left Humbleton and returned to Springfield.
The name is likely a spoof of Hummelstown, Pennsylvania, as well as a reference to the actual Hummel figurines.

Brockway and Ogdenville

Two towns mentioned by Lyle Lanley (voiced by Phil Hartman) as towns to which he's sold monorail systems (episode Marge vs. the Monorail). Ogdenville has also been mentioned in other episodes. Ogden is the name of a real city in northern Utah. The name Ogdenville may be taken from this city, however when Lyle Lanley shows Ogdenville on the map, it appears to be in Arizona. It may also be a reference to Nashville, which was named for an ancestor of Ogden Nash. There are two real Brockways, in Wisconsin and in Pennsylvania, but the Brockway shown is in the Southeast, in South Carolina or Georgia.
In "Scenes from the Class Struggle in Springfield", Ogdenville is the home of the Ogdenville Outlet Mall which the Simpsons visit once, although the driving trip apparently takes several hundred miles over nearly impassable desert roads.

Barnacle Bay

Barnacle Bay.

After seeing old footage of a family trip to Barnacle Bay, New England, Marge begins to feel nostalgic and as a result, Homer takes her there in The Wife Aquatic. Although the island of old was a paradise, the island the Simpsons saw was a disgusting dump. The main industries on the island are tourism and fishing for "Yum Yum fish", but after a stern lecture from Lisa on the dangers of over-fishing, the island inhabitants switched over to logging.

North Haverbrook

First mentioned by Lyle Lanley in Marge vs. the Monorail. Marge arrives in North Haverbrook and finds a desolate ghost town, as the monorail has caused disasters when it had crashed and scared away investors. People have since denied the monorail's existence, as Marge is met by a woman who orders Marge to "Go away, there is no monorail and never was!" Lanley is later killed by the citizens of the town after his plane makes an unscheduled stop there. North Haverbrook appears to be in Minnesota.
North Haverbrook appeared in "Little Big Girl". After Bart is awarded a driver's license, he gets sick of countless errands and goes for a drive and eventually finds North Haverbrook, and falls in love with a girl named Darcy. In this episode, the town appears to have recovered well from the monorail disaster, as it is now changed from a ghost town to a thriving community. All signs of the monorail have also disappeared.

Cypress Creek

'Cypress Creek' is a utopian town seen in You Only Move Twice, a season eight episode. It is a company town where employees of Globex Corporation live. The Simpson family moved there when Homer was offered a job at Globex Corporation. After realizing his family is unhappy living in Cypress Creek (never noticing his boss was an evil genius, despite increasingly obvious evidence factors), Homer quits his job and they move back to Springfield.
The town of Cypress Creek was originally to be called "Emerald Caverns" but was changed to sound more like a place in Silicon Valley. It has been noted that the town bears strong geographic resemblance to Redwood Shores, California, and that Globex Corporation has many similarities to Oracle Corporation, which is headquartered there.

Little Pwagmattasquarmsettport

Little Pwagmattasquarmsettport is the location of the Flanders' beachside cabin. In the episode Summer of 4 Ft. 2, the Simpson family vacations there instead of the Flanders' when Ned has to stay in town to serve jury duty. According to Marge, it is known as 'America's Scrodbasket'. Stores and facilities seen in Little Pwag include Teejay's Zaymart, the Public Library, Li'l Valu Mart (with a similar, also Indian version of the Kwik-E-Mart's Apu), Big Sue's Tapwater Taffy, Gull Things Considered Barber Shop and Tern For The Wurst Delicatessen.
Although never explicitly stated, it is fairly obvious that the town is located in New England, most likely on Cape Cod, as evidenced by the following:

★ "Little Pwagmattasquarmsettport" sounds like many New England seaside towns that combine long Native American names with "-port" at the end (e.g. Kennebunkport in Maine)

★ There are many sand dunes between the Flanders' summer house and the beach.

★ "Tapwater Taffy" is a parody of Salt water taffy, which is sold virtually everywhere on the Cape

★ The bridge the family drives over at the end shares the distinctive design of the Bourne and Sagamore bridges over the Cape Cod Canal.

Terror Lake

Terror Lake is the town the Simpsons are relocated to as the Thompsons in the episode Cape Feare. Terror Lake is apparently located upriver from Springfield.

Unnamed state

Main articles: Springfield's State

Many locations, including Springfield, are located in a state within the USA which, as a running gag, the location has never been revealed. Simpsons director David Silverman has said that the state is called ''North Takoma'' and there have been uses of the abbreviation 'NT' and 'TA' in episodes.
