Collectibles

"Collectibles" are objects whose real-world toy versions were originally packaged as random assortments, challenging buyers to collect entire sets. In recent years, however, the toy assortments have lost their randomness and become simple ammunition refills; yet the "collectibles" name has stuck. Because toys are often designed to feature the current collectibles, these objects are among the best known in Bionicle. In order of appearance:
Kanohi Masks

Main articles: Kanohi

Kanohi is the Matoran word for "mask". Kanohi Masks are made from melted down Kanoka Disks. Matoran need to wear basic Kanohi Masks to keep functioning, while Toa and Turaga can wear more powerful ones and use the special abilities that they contain.
Krana

Main articles: Krana

Krana are mask-like parasites "worn" by the Bohrok, mysterious creatures that once battled the Toa. They are essentially the "brains" of the Bohrok and are made by the Bahrag, twin queens of the Bohrok Swarms.
There are also specialized Krana called Krana-Kal; worn by six elite Bohrok called Bohrok-Kal. How the Krana-Kal or the Bohrok-Kal were made remains a mystery.
Kraata

Main articles: Kraata

Kraata are the Makuta's "offspring", worm-like creatures made from his essence that can infect Kanohi Masks. Kraata can be mutated into Rahkshi armor, which another Kraata can then control. There are 42 known variations that result in 42 known Rahkshi.
Kanoka Disks

Main articles: Kanoka

Kanoka Disks are energized disks used on Metru Nui for sport and defense. Each disk has a three-digit code that describes its flight characteristics, powers, and strength.
Rhotuka Spinners

Main articles: Rhotuka

Rhotuka are wheels of energy that can be created by any living being. The powers are determined by who is launching it, but they cannot actually be made and fired without having some type of launcher, either natural or artificial.
Zamor Spheres

Main articles: Zamor

Zamor Spheres are transparent hollow balls that can be filled with liquids, gases, or kinds of energy. When a Zamor Sphere hits its target, it turns intangible to let its payload take effect.
Squids

Squids are fully organic sealife that Kalmah breeds as weapons for the Barraki. They can suck life energy out of targets with five fang-like organs that are on their "faces".
Cordak Blasters

Cordak Blasters ("cordak" being the Matoran word for "desolation") are six-barreled cannons that fire explosive minirockets, made by the Vortixx of Xia. The Order of Mata Nui has acquired some of these blasters, and they were used by Hydraxon and Maxilos against anyone trying to escape the Pit. A few of the Pit's prisoners, the Barraki, have since claimed their own Cordak Blasters (presumably from an armory of Hydraxon's); but these have been taken by the Toa Mahri. Toa Lesovikk also uses a Sea Sled equipped with a Cordak Blaster. The Toa Mahri have special attachments that let them carry extra ammunition around with them. Each Toa Mahri carries one Cordak Blaster except for Kongu who carries two blasters.

Nuva Cube

A mysterious lock that appeared in the Bohrok nest, in front of where the Bahrag were imprisoned. It has six sides, each of which matches a different Nuva Symbol. If the Symbols were put into the place, the Bahrag's prison would be undone. The cube was guarded by the Exo-Toa, and is presumably still in the Bahrag's cavern. The Nuva Cube was sent to the island of Mata Nui from Artakha.
Nuva Symbols

After the Toa Mata became the Toa Nuva, they received special stone symbols of their powers. These symbols, when kept in their Suva Shrines, would maintain the Nuva elemental powers. The symbols were stolen by the Bohrok-Kal, as they also acted as keys to the lock on the Bahrag's prison. The Bohrok-Kal were undone by the symbols when the Toa fed their power through them into the Bohrok-Kals' shield tools, causing them to overload. The symbols were recovered, and since then have been hidden in more secure locations by the Toa Nuva. Like the Nuva Cube, the Nuva Symbols were created on Artakha.
Spirit Stars

Every Toa has a Spirit Star in the sky above that shines brightly as long as they remain Toa (though sometimes the timing of a star's formation or going out doesn't precisely match the corresponding event; Takanuva's star appeared before he became a Toa, and Lhikan's didn't split into the Toa Metru's until long after he essentially passed his power to them). The position of the star in the sky represents the Toa's location; for instance, the Toa Metru were able to find Lhikan by following his Spirit Star.
Toa Disks

Each Toa Metru has a Kanoka Disk with their name and mask carved into it, which the Toa took to confirm their destiny as heroes. The Toa Disks can unleash the same elemental powers as their corresponding Toa.
Toa Stones

A Toa Stone is a stone which has been imbued with a certain amount of Toa Energy, and can be used to transform simple Matoran into powerful Toa. It does not give Toa power to the Matoran, but rather unlocks hidden power that the Matoran already has; so Matoran that are not destined to become Toa will be unaffected by Toa Stones.Official Greg Discussion p. 200, post #5988
So far, there have been two known sets of Toa Stones. The first Toa Stones were given to Vakama, Nokama, Onewa, Whenua, Matau, and Nuju by Toa Lhikan for the purpose of creating new guardian Toa; the Toa Metru. When they arrived on Mata Nui, the Toa Metru made a new set of Toa Stones so that if the worst happens, others could become Toa and guard the Matoran in their place. They placed these stone in a hiding place where only "one with the heart of a true Toa could ever reach". This second set was used a thousand years later, when Takua gathered them; surprisingly, these did not transform Matoran into Toa, but instead summoned the Toa Mata to Mata Nui.
Other objects known to trigger the transformation into Toa are the Avohkii Mask of Light and lightning from the Red Star (though the lightning has had several side effects, see "Powers" section under Toa Inika).
Toa Suva

A Toa Suva is a shrine, dedicated either to a specific Toa or to Toa in general. Each of the Toa Mata/Toa Nuva had their own Suva on Mata Nui where they stored their Kanohi Masks and Nuva Symbols; they were able to switch worn masks with stored masks at will. On Metru Nui a Suva was part of the Great Temple; it held a selection Toa tools and the Toa Metru's Toa Disks.

Vehicles and Machines

Boxor

The Boxor vehicle was designed by Nuparu, who discovered an inactive Gahlok during the Bohrok siege of Onu-Koro. Nuparu discovered that the Bohrok were non-living, and were actually machines meant to work with the Krana. With aid from Onepu and Taipu, Nuparu modified the Gahlok shell into a combat vehicle for use against the Bohrok. The Boxor works by using powerful punches to dislodge a Bohrok's Krana. Boxors were used successfully in the liberations of Onu-Koro and Le-Koro, but were defeated by Pahrak in Ga-Koro (as the Boxors sank in deep water). The Boxors were later used against the Bohrok-Kal, but were not very successful. Nuparu continued to make Boxor until the Rahkshi appeared and the Matoran left the island.
Chute System

The six Metru (districts) of Metru Nui are connected with each other and with outlying regions by a complex system of chutes, which are controlled by the Moto-Hub in Le-Metru. The chutes consist of a flow of liquid protodermis, held in place and directed by a magnetic field.
Although the flow is slowed down enough to jump in and out at designated stations, some daredevil Matoran like to try and jump in through the magnetic field during the split seconds that it wavers, though if they time their jump wrong, they could either hit the field hard or get hit by passing cargo. An even greater danger is when some of the magnetic energy folds in on itself and breaks off, forming a force sphere; force spheres will fly through the chutes drawing in anything that gets too close until it grows so big that it implodes.
Exo-Toa

An Exo-Toa

Exo-Toa are special suits of powered armor that Toa can wear; they can also be programmed to act on their own. Each Exo-Toa is equipped with a claw arm and an electro-rocket, and it can enhance the strength of the Toa wearing it by several times. However, it also blocks the elemental powers of its wearer.
Exo-Toa were designed for use by the Brotherhood of Makuta, back when they were protectors along with the Toa; and the Brotherhood continues to use them even though the Toa are now their enemies. Exo-Toa are mainstays of Brotherhood armies, having been deployed against the Barraki 80,000 years ago and against the Dark Hunters in recent centuries.
In the present day, six Exo-Toa were found in the Bohrok's nest by the Toa Mata; placed there when the Brotherhood was still good as a failsafe in case the Bohrok were awakened early. The Toa tried to use the armor to defeat the Bohrok Queens, the Bahrag, but found the lack of elemental powers too much of a liability. When the Bohrok-Kal later tried to free the Bahrag, these six Exo-Toa were reduced to scrap metal trying to stop them. Nuparu has since salvaged the scrap intending to study it, but had little time to do so before becoming a Toa Inika.
Nektann

Nektann are robotic, auto-targeting turrets that fire concussive blasts, and they are common to the war-torn island of Zakaz. The Piraka (who were native to Zakaz) have built several Nektann to guard their Voya Nui stronghold. Nektann are armored all over except on the bottom, and have the ability to reassemble themselves after being destroyed. In the ''Voya Nui Online Game'', there are several other varieties of Nektann: besides various combat models of varying offensive and defensive strengths, there are Repair Nektann that can heal other units and the "Debuff" Nektann that weaken enemies' abilities; all of these are mobile, with four insectoid legs, but lack the impenetrable armor of the stationary versions.
Sea Sled

An vehicle that can operate either over or under the surface of the water.Official Greg Discussion p. 228 post #9102 Designed to carry a single rider, a sea sled is the chosen mode of transportation for Toa Lesovikk. Lesovikk's sled is equipped with a Cordak Blaster, making it a devastating weapon.
Toa Canisters

For long sea voyages, Toa and other beings tend to travel in airtight canisters instead of boats. The canisters can also travel through rock as easily as they can through water, in order to get to and from underground locations. However, the canisters are not designed to provide a comfortable or even a safe ride, and only those with the power of a Toa are considered likely to survive the journey. Several sets of canisters have been hidden around the world for Toa - specifically the Toa Mata - to use.

★ The Toa Mata used canisters to travel to Mata Nui from an unknown location; the Piraka later hijacked them to get to Voya Nui.Official Greg Discussion p. 210, post #6289

★ These Toa, after becoming Toa Nuva, travelled from Metru Nui to Voya Nui by another set of canisters. These canisters were presumably used again for the return trip to Metru Nui.

Vezon got to Voya Nui using a canister that once belonged to an Order of Mata Nui member.

★ Six Matoran going to aid the Toa Nuva found canisters in the realm of Karzahni and used them to escape; upon arriving at Voya Nui these canisters were struck by lightning from the Red Star and their passengers emerged as Toa Inika.
A Matoran who helped build the canisters described them as being built "in the world that feeds the world. The wellspring of flame that blazes bright, yet burns none but its bearer. And he, oh, he it burns until there is nothing left, not even ashes." However, this Matoran's sanity is in question.''Bionicle Legends #2: Dark Destiny'', p. 108
The Matoran also explained that the canisters were always built in groups of six because if there were a seventh canister, then a seventh Toa would come and use it; and a "seventh Toa" was only prophesied to come in a time of darkness. So, by the builders' thinking, no seventh canister means no seventh Toa, and therefore no darkness.''Bionicle Legends #2: Dark Destiny'', p. 112
Trap

Ussanui

A hoverbike-like vehicle made mainly from Rahkshi and Bohrok-Kal parts and powered by Kraata. It was used by Toa Takanuva to get to Mangaia, home of the Makuta. It was destroyed when Takanuva slammed it into Mangaia's entrance gate.
Visorak Battle Ram

A mobile siege tower used by the Visorak. It moves on four legs by the power of four Visorak yoked to it. A monstrous face is usually mounted on the front to frighten enemies, and it is equipped with a large catapult.

Other items

Air Bubbles

The underwater city of Mahri Nui depends on special air bubbles for their survival. The air for these bubbles is caught by a certain type of seaweed called airweed; and while Matoran can harvest this air, Hydruka have proven especially efficient at sensing which stalks of airweed contain air and which don't. As a result, Matoran have tamed herds of Hydruka to do the job.
With the air, the Matoran have built large bubbles protecting the city buildings, and when outside these buildings they have personal air bubbles. These bubbles protect the Matoran not only from drowning, but from the mutagenic effects of the surrounding waters.
The Matoran can also use air offensively. Noting the Hydrukas' defense mechanism, a Le-Matoran designed a launcher that was able to solidify air. He originally designed these solidified bubbles to be rode as transport, but after he shot himself right into a predator the launchers were reworked as weapons. Solidified air bubbles are yellow-orange in color, and upon impact they "shatter" back to their gaseous form. They are especially effective against sea enemies as air is toxic to water-breathers.
The Mata Nui stone used in the Amaja circle.

The Makuta stone used in the Amaja circle.

Amaja Circle

The Amaja Circle is a sand pit at the Kini-Nui Temple that the Turaga of Mata Nui use to illustrate tales they are telling. They use small stones to represent different people; in particular a smooth, rounded stone that represents the Great Spirit Mata Nui and a jagged black stone that represents Makuta. The Makuta stone is a shard left over from the prison that the Toa Metru once trapped him in.
Amana Volo Sphere

Sometimes when an infected Kanohi Mask is removed from a Rahi, dark energy is released and forms an Amana Volo sphere. This energy can then be absorbed by others and used for healing.
Antidermis

Antidermis is a viral substance that the Piraka use in their Zamor Spheres. When a Matoran is infected by it, he will mindlessly follow any order given to him; this applies to Toa and Turaga as well, though the Toa Inika's electrical powers give them immunity. Brutaka, on the other hand, temporarily becomes stronger and more aggressive when his body absorbs the virus. The only known way to cure infected Matoran is energized protodermis. The Piraka used a crystal to collect antidermis in a large vat, but the vat was recently shattered by Axonn. Antidermis is actually a bodiless Makuta, shapeshifted into a viral form.
Charms

A set of fifteen stone medallions on Mata Nui, each engraved with a symbol of a tenet of Matoran belief: the Three Virtues, the six Principles derived from them, and the six Skills derived from the Principles.
During her kolhii training, Hahli collected the Charms used them to unlock the hiding places of six Crystals (below).
Crystals

Six gemstones on Mata Nui representing the Principles of the Matoran. Each was hidden in its respective region on the island, with the hiding places unlocked by the Charms (above) connected to each Principle (for instance, the Crystal of Courage was unlocked by the Charms of Courage, Duty (which Courage is derived from), and Strength (which Courage grants)).
During her kolhii training, Hahli collected the Crystals and placed them in six statues representing the Great Spirit Mata Nui. The effect the Crystals had is unclear, but it led to Hahli's appointment as Chronicler.
Madu Fruit

Madu are green coconut-like fruit with volatile juices that Matoran use as throwing weapons. Unripe red Madu, called Madu Cabolo, are especially explosive.
Makoki Stones

The Makoki stones (literally, "key stones") are six stones that act as keys to a lock somewhere.
Six thousand years before the Great Cataclysm, they existed as a single stone tablet, guarded in a besieged Toa fortress. Just as the Makoki stone was going to be moved to a more secure location, Hakann and Vezok infiltrated the fortress and stole it. The Dark Hunters then recruited the two thieves and claimed the stone for themselves.
Four thousand years later, during the war between the Toa and the Dark Hunters, Hakann caught Toa Lhikan overhearing Toa Nidhiki's betrayal. Knowing Lhikan would lay a trap and win the war, Hakann offered Lhikan the Makoki stone in exchange for the Hunters' freedom. Lhikan agreed and the deal went through, but six months later the Dark Hunters stole the stone back and sold it to the Brotherhood of Makuta, splitting it into six pieces to get six times the ransom.
The Makoki stones were next seen two thousand years later just after the Great Cataclysm, when the Toa Hordika collected them in order to claim the Avohkii Mask of Light that the Rahaga had locked away (it is unclear when the Rahaga gained possession of the stones; they probably took them at the same time that they stole the Avohkii and learned the Brotherhood was corrupted). A thousand years after that, the Toa Mata each received one when they collected a full set of Kanohi Masks; and used them at the Kini-Nui Temple to open the path to Makuta's lair, Mangaia.
What very few people know is that the Makoki stones are inscribed with hardly visible scratches that form near-indecipherable letters, with the inscription detailing the operations of the Brotherhood of Makuta: names of members, locations of fortresses, etc. The only one known for sure to be aware of the stone's true value is Vezok; Lhikan and the Brotherhood were known to be ignorant of the inscription (and the Dark Hunter leader, the Shadowed One, was confirmed to be unaware as wellOfficial Greg Discussion p. 240 post #7172).
Matoran Spheres

Similar to Toa Canisters, Matoran placed into these pods will not only go into suspended animation, but will also eventually physically weaken and lose their memory. Makuta put the entire population of Metru Nui into spheres as part of his plans, and the Toa Metru later moved these spheres to Mata Nui and woke the Matoran inside. The spheres were later disassembled and used as raw material in constructing new villages.Official Greg Discussion p. 260 post #7797
Nui Stone

A Toa Stone-like object that slowly leeches Toa energy from any Toa within 3000 kio; the energy can then be absorbed from the stone by any being. When powered, it glows red and emits heat. Its makers intended to destroy it, but it was stolen before that could happen. It evenutally made its way to Toa Tuyet's home island, and she brought it with her to Metru Nui. The Dark Hunters pursued her, and she framed them for murder to set Toa Lhikan and Toa Nidhiki against them. They discovered her lie, and Lhikan destroyed the stone in the ensuing battle, much to Nidhiki's anger.
The Many Deaths of Toa Tuyet by Greg Farshtey, posted at BZPower forums
Thousands of years later Makuta (in the form of Maxilos) led Toa Mahri Matoro to Toa Tuyet's remains somewhere in the original Pit. Stateing that Tuyet maybe the only being that can recreate the Nui Stone, Makuta told Matoro to use his Kanohi to reanimate her so she could hopefully create another object.
Protodermis

Main articles: Protodermis

Protodermis is the substance that most everything in the Bionicle world is made of. It comes in many forms; notable variations are 'solid protodermis', an extremely strong metal; 'liquid protodermis', a fluid nearly identical to water; and 'energized protodermis', a mysterious liquid that can either transform beings or destroy them.
Red Star

The Red Star is an exceptionally bright celestial body that travels through the sky over the planet. By moving into formation with other stars, it forms constellations that can foretell the near future. The Red Star recently discharged a large amount of electrical energy and caused a thunderstorm over the island of Voya Nui. Six lightning bolts from the star hit Toa Canisters and transformed the Matoran inside into the Toa Inika.
Staff of Artakha

Main articles: Artakha

Volo Lutu Launcher

The Volo Lutu launcher essentially works as a grappling hook; Matoran can not only use it to grab objects from a distance, but can anchor the "hook" and use the cord's elasticity to launch themselves across gaps. Takua used a Volo Lutu Launcher when he was looking for the Toa Stones on Mata Nui.
Vuata Maca Tree

Each village on Mata Nui had a Vuata Maca tree, which appeared to be a major source of food for the Matoran. When the Turaga were captured shortly before the Toa Mata arrived, the Vuata Maca trees were poisoned and each required two Vuata Maca Crystals to cure them.
Widgets

Widgets are the form of currency that arose on Mata Nui after the Bohrok invasion, when the island was at peace and the trade routes between villages became open. They are pieces of protodermis carved into gears, cogs, and other shapes; and are based on currency previously used on Metru Nui. Prior to this time, goods were traded using a simple barter system.
