LIST OF TALLEST BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES IN LONDON
(Redirected from List of tallest structures in London)
This is a 'list of the tallest buildings and structures in ''London', England, United Kingdom. As of May 2007, there were 10 buildings with a roof height of at least 150m in London with a further 12 under construction or approved for construction.[1]
London has strict regulations on building height to preserve its protected views, especially those of St Paul's Cathedral, the Tower of London and Westminster Palace.[2] Until the early 1960s, most buildings in London were restricted to 30 metres (100ft) in height. This restriction was put in place in order to keep every floor of a building in reach of the fire fighting equipment.[3] The lifting of the height restriction caused a boom in the building of tall buildings during the 1960s. Most prominent of these was the Post Office Tower (now known as the BT Tower), built as a combined office and microwave relay station.
One of London's first notable tall buildings was the 117m Centre Point, completed in 1966. The 183m tall NatWest Tower (now Tower 42) was completed in 1980 and was followed in 1990 by the 235m One Canada Square which formed the centrepiece of the Canary Wharf development. Following another 10 year gap, several new skyscrapers appeared on London's skyline — 8 Canada Square, 25 Canada Square, the Heron Quays buildings, the Barclays headquarters and the award-winning 30 St Mary Axe.
During 2007, construction is scheduled to start on the 310m Shard London Bridge, the 288m Bishopsgate Tower, the 240m Heron Tower, the Riverside South towers and the 225m The Leadenhall Building.

This list contains all completed high-rise buildings located within London that are over 100m (328ft) in height.1 The list is sorted by official height; where two or more structures share the same height, equal ranking is given and the structures are then listed in alphabetical order.

The following is a list of all structures in London with a height greater than 100m.[4] A structure differs from a high-rise by its lack of floors and habitability.

This is a list of buildings over 150m that are either under construction or are proposed for erection in London. A further 12 buildings with a height of between 100m and 150m have also been approved or are under construction.
