LIST OF TOWNS IN NORTHERN IRELAND
This is a list page for towns in Northern Ireland. In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, a town is any settlement which has received a charter of incorporation, more commonly known as a town charter, approved by the monarch. However, other smaller settlements are also included in this list. For convenience, cities are also listed, marked in bold (see Cities in Ireland for an independent list). Note that Derry and Londonderry are alternative names for the same place.
The NI Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) defines a town as having a population of 4,500 or more people. A Small Town is defined as having population between 4,500 and 10,000 people, a Medium Town between 10,000 and 18,000 people and a Large Town as having population between 18,000 and 75,000 people (ref: Report of the Inter-Departmental Urban-Rural Definition Group – Statistical Classification and Delineation of Settlements, February 2005)
