Career

She began gospel singing with her mother in the Holloway Community Singers and she has also recorded with the Queen of Gospel Albertina Walker in The Caravans gospel group. Holloway was also a cast member of the Chicago troupe of ''Don't Bother Me I Can't Cope''.
Holloway found moderate disco success when she placed eighteen songs on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart, including four Number ones, and was featured on Dan Hartman's disco classic, "Vertigo / Relight My Fire". In the early 1980s, she had another dance hit with "Crash Goes Love", before her vocals from "Love Sensation" were used in the UK number one hit, "Ride On Time" by Black Box. Holloway, however, was uncredited for her powerful vocals, and both Holloway and her attorneys successfully launched a press-attack, and, subsequently, sued Black Box, leading to an undisclosed court settlement in Holloway's favor. Holloway's fortunes dramatically improved, however, when she had her first US number-one, when Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch featured her vocals in the chart topping song Good Vibrations. Holloway also performed with Marky Marky and the Funky Bunch, to promote to single, and received full vocal credit and royalties. Despite the Black Box copyright infringements, both "Ride On Time" and "Good Vibrations" help elevate Holloway to legendary status in the dance music community.
More recent dance chart entries include "What Goes Around Comes Around" (GTS featuring Loleatta Holloway) in 2000 and "Relight My Fire" (credited to Martin featuring Loleatta Holloway), which hit #5 in 2003.
Her latest hit "Love Sensation '06" peaked at #22 in the Dutch Top 40[1] and reached #37 on the UK Singles Chart as well as #49 in Australia.
Today, Holloway resides in Chicago, and occasionally tours.
