'Long Island University' ('LIU') is a private university based in Long Island, New York.
Long Island University has three main campuses: the original downtown Brooklyn Campus, C.W. Post, and the Southampton Graduate Campus.
Established in 1926, the Brooklyn Campus is an ethnically-diverse [2] urban campus in downtown Brooklyn, which offers 209 degree and certificate programs at the associates, undergraduate, and graduate level. This original LIU campus, at the intersection of Flatbush and De Kalb avenues (across the street from Junior's restaurant), includes the former Brooklyn Paramount Theater, the world’s first theater built expressly for talking pictures [3]. The theater, which abuts the original core campus, was bought in 1960 by LIU and converted into a gymnasium in 1963 (parts of the balcony were sectioned off as lecture rooms). The theater's original Wurlitzer organ is used during the Blackbirds' home basketball games.
The Brooklyn campus also hosts the Friends World Program, an international college of global studies. The campus houses recognized graduate programs in Clinical Psychology and Pharmacy. It is also the home of the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds, an NCAA Division I athletics program with 17 teams under the new Wellness, Recreation and Athletics Center, a $40 million dollar facility with swimming facilities, a fitness center and a 2,000-person arena.

The C.W. Post campus is in Brookville, New York, on Long Island's north shore. Established in 1954, C.W. Post offers 250 academic programs and averages 20 students per class[4].
The C.W. Post Campus is home to The Tilles Center for the Performing Arts, which presents world-renowned artists in 70 music, dance and theater performances each season.
The C.W. Post Campus houses a lifetime learning program Continuing Education & Professional Studies that offers classes in the fall, spring and summer semesters. Subject areas include Paralegal, Financial Planning, Interior Decorating, Corporate Training, Project Management, Entrepreneurship, Real Estate and Insurance.
The Southampton graduate campus, in Southampton, New York, offers programs in teacher education (MS), english and writing (MFA), homeland security (advanced certificate), homeland security management (MS), literacy education (MS), public administration (MPA), and teaching students with disabilities (MS).
In addition to three smaller regional campuses at Brentwood, Riverhead, Rockland County, LIU offers advanced programs at its Westchester Graduate Campus in Purchase, N.Y., Westchester County. Established in 1975, this facility offers masters and advanced certificate programs in teacher education, counseling, psychology, mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy, business administration (M.B.A.), and library and information science. Most students are employed and attend evening classes, generally on a part-time basis.
Many faculty members are real-world practitioners from the business, education and professional communities engaged in on-going scholarly activities. They are active members and leaders of professional organizations who present at regional and national conferences, publish, and involve themselves in community outreach efforts.
The Westchester Graduate Campus awards a number of scholarships to qualified students and Westchester County residents. A special scholarship for the Purchase N.Y. community provides a reduction in tuition for graduates of colleges in that city. The University also offers scholarships to qualified employees of Westchester County and the City of Yonkers.
The Long Island University Public Radio Network broadcasts on 88.3 FM (WLIU) and 88.1 FM (WCWP).
