Critical response

In 1989, it was ranked #24 on ''Rolling Stone'' magazine's list of the 100 greatest albums of the 1980s.
Fans of X's hard-core punk phase and LA area gigging days have always selected this as the band's finest album. Other critics tend toward their later albums Wild Gift, Under the Big Black Sun, and More Fun In The New World.

Re-release

It was re-released by Rhino Records in 2001 with five bonus tracks.

Trivia

★ The song "Los Angeles" can be heard on ''Tony Hawk's Underground 2'' (where the words "nigger" and "shit" are censored), the third season episode "Everyone Leaves" of HBO's ''Six Feet Under'', and '' (in which the verse "She found it hard to say goodbye to her own best friend..." is sung twice - first time in place of the verse "All her toys wore out in black and her boys had too...").

★ The song "The Unheard Music" can be heard on ''The X Files'' season two episode "3" about vampires stalking Los Angeles. In a scene in a hard core punk bar, character Fox Mulder (portrayed by David Duchovny) seeks out character Kristen Killar (Perry Reeves) while the song is playing in the background.

★ Punk band The Bronx have covered Los Angeles, in tribute to their home city and also to X.
