LUIGI BRUINS
'Luigi Bruins' (born 1987-03-09 in Rotterdam) is a Dutch footballer who currently plays for Feyenoord Rotterdam. He started his career at Excelsior Rotterdam. He's of Italian descent and thus still eligible for both Dutch and Italian National teams. While at Excelsior Bruins had been linked with the top four Dutch teams (Ajax Amsterdam, AZ Alkmaar, Feyenoord Rotterdam and PSV Eindhoven) as well as with Tottenham Hotspur FC. He decided to play for Feyenoord Rotterdam and signed a contract there for several years and joined the team after the 2006-07 season.[1]
In 2007 Bruins was called up by Jong Oranje coach Foppe de Haan to be part of his squad for the 2007 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship held in the Netherlands that secured a semi final spot and that qualified for the 2008 Summer Olympics. Later the final was reached with a 1-1, 13-12 win after a penalty shootout with 32 penalty kicks taken against England. The Dutch went on to retain their 2006 title by beating Serbia 4-1 in the final; Bruins scored the fourth Dutch goal.
