LYNBROOK, VICTORIA

'Lynbrook' is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Its Local Government Area is the City of Casey. Lynbrook is positioned on the South Gippsland Highway, 40km south-east of Melbourne CBD, slightly north-west of Cranbourne, and just south of the residential suburb of Hampton Park.
The suburb was developed by VicUrban, starting in 1994. When completed in 2005, Lynbrook will have 1,750 households, approximately 5,200 residents and a total area of 1.85 square kilometres. A special feature of the VicUrban development is the stormwater catchment which flows into the lake and wetlands where it is purified before being released into Dandenong Creek and into Port Phillip Bay.
Prior to 1994, the area now occupied by Lynbrook was part of Lyndhurst.

Lynbrook Primary School opened in January 2005 with an initial enrolment of 175 students. A site has been set aside for a Catholic primary school to be built in the future.
A maternal and child health centre was constructed by Casey Council and opened in early 2006. This centre also includes a pre-school kindergarten for the growing number of children in the area.
Banjo Paterson Park, a large recreation reserve, has many paths for walking and cycling, a barbecue area, a large children's playground, open spaces and a football / cricket oval. The oval is home to the "Lynbrook Lakers" cricket team which fields a number of adult and children's cricket teams in the local league.
A large shopping centre development site on the corner of South Gippsland Highway and Lynbrook Boulevard was purchased by Coles Myer who have built and operate the complex. Construction of Lynbrook Village is now complete and it opened in March 2007. Lynbrook Village features a 3,700sqm Coles Supermarket and Liquor outlet along with 33 speciality stores, a free standing Red Rooster which is still under construction. The planned petrol station will no longer be built. Shops include an ANZ bank, Clints bargains, Eating House Restaurant, First National Real Estate, Flakey Jakes fish and chips, Zeebox noodles and many others.
A Railway Station on the Cranbourne railway line is planned for Lynbrook at a future date. This is expected to be built during or after 2010. An article in the Crabourne Leader (August 1 2007) on Page 7 made the possibility of the train station not been built until 2016.

Events

Carols by Candlelight is held every year in December, and includes a fireworks display. The carols scheduled for 17 December 2006, however, were cancelled due to lack of numbers, however, the 2007 carols are still expected to run.
