MåRTEN HAGSTRöM

'Mårten Hagström' is the rhythm guitarist for the Swedish Technical Thrash metal band Meshuggah. He joined the band after the release of their first album, which allowed Jens Kidman to focus on his vocal performances. He is known for his strong and complex rhythm guitar playing. Marten has cited the Canadian rock band Rush as an influence.
In a Metal Injection interview he has said, "You can't play an instrument for the technicality of it. It's a tool you use it to get what's in here and here (points to heart and head) out there." He's also said when he was growing up everybody in Sweden was trying to be a guitar virtuoso.
Although fellow Meshuggah guitarist Fredrik Thordendal plays all of the leads and solos and writes more of Meshuggah's songs, Mårten entirely wrote a jazz-influenced instrumental, Acrid Placidity on the album Destroy Erase Improve, which shows his value to the band.
Hagström and Meshuggah drummer Tomas Haake have been playing together ever since they were 6 years old. Both Hagström and Meshuggah lead guitarist Fredrik Thordendal use custom-made Nevborn and Ibanez eight string guitars.
