MAMAS DON'T LET YOUR BABIES GROW UP TO BE COWBOYS
"'Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Cowboys'" is a country music song written by Ed Bruce and Patsy Bruce. It was made famous by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson, whose version was first released on their 1978 album ''Waylon & Willie''. The song's lyrics advise mothers to raise their children as doctors or lawyers rather than cowboys, who seem to be "always alone."
The Waylon & Willie version peaked at No. 1 in March 1978, spending four weeks atop the ''Billboard magazine'' Hot Country Singles chart. It was the last song for 12 years to spend as long atop the chart, as it wasn't until April 1990 when Randy Travis matched "Mamas Don't Let Your Babies ..." chart-topping longevity with "Hard Rock Bottom of Your Heart."
In 1994, country music group Gibson/Miller Band recorded a cover version on their album ''Red, White and Blue Collar''. Their version peaked at #49 on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot Country Songs chart, and was featured in the soundtrack for the movie ''The Cowboy Way''.
The song was part of the soundtrack as one of the songs on country radio station K-Rose.
