The 'Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group' (MOHG) is a hotel management company which is part of Jardine Matheson Holdings Limited and is formally known as Mandarin Oriental International Limited.
The first hotel of the Group "The Mandarin" opened in Hong Kong in September, 1963. The group began its expansion in Asia in 1974 as the "Mandarin International Hotels Limited" and acquired a 49% interest in "The Oriental" Hotel in Bangkok, also a legendary property. The trademark 11-bladed gold fan logo was created in 1987. Mandarin Oriental bought The Mark Hotel which is a renowned hotel in the Upper East side of New York, but later sold it because they used it to establish their name before the Mandarin Oriental New York opened in the Time Warner Center.
The company was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 1987 under the name "Mandarin Oriental International Limited". On 20 February 1991, it was listed on the Singapore Exchange. Mandarin Oriental delisted its shares in Hong Kong in January 1995 along with its parent Jardine Matheson Holdings Ltd. and all but one of Jardine's other publicly traded units.
The group operates 20 hotels around the world, with an additional 14 under various stages of development.
The Hong Kong Mandarin Oriental and Bangkok (The Oriental) locations are currently the most renowned Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group properties.

The Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong is the first and flagship hotel of the group. It opened in 1963, as a 5-star hotel located in Central, Hong Kong Island; Hong Kong's financial and banking district. It has been rated the best hotel in Asia for many years and it's the choice for many diplomats, politicians and celebrities such as Kevin Costner, The Sultan of Brunei, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, the late Patrick Lichfield and Princess Diana, former US Presidents Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford and George H.W. Bush, as well as the esteemed members of the business community.
This hotel was closed during 2006 for a major overhaul. It has now partially re-opened: all guest facilities are available, but only half of the guest-room floors are available for occupancy.
The Landmark Mandarin Oriental Hotel, a boutique hotel established in 2005, is the third hotel in Hong Kong opened by the Mandarin Oriental Group. It was established in the newly renovated Landmark building in Hong Kong, site of the Hong Kong Hotel in the 1970s. It's "older sister" and first hotel of the group is located one street away.
The Oriental Bangkok hotel in Bangkok, also one of Mandarin Oriental's flagship properties; in service since 1876 and has been a favorite for the elite since the day it opened, including writer and author Joseph Conrad, of the Lord Jim novel.
The Mandarin Oriental, Hyde Park in London (Hyde Park) is located in Knightsbridge, opposite Harvey Nichols department store. Its restaurant Foliage is regarded as one of the best in London and is often frequented by film stars and models as well as other celebrities, when they find themselves in London. It has been frequented in the past by the singer Madonna and was also used to host the 80th birthday party of Baroness Thatcher in late 2005.
