'Maria of Hungary' (c. 1257 –
25 March,
1323) of the
Arpad dynasty was
Queen consort of
Kingdom of Naples.
She was (possibly the eldest) daughter of
Stephen V of Hungary (d. 1272) and his wife, queen Elisabeth, who was daughter of
Zayhan of Kuni, a chief of the
Cuman tribe and had been a
pagan before her marriage. Her brother
Ladislaus IV of Hungary ruled as king from
1272 to
1290.
Family
In
1270 when twelve, she married the future
Charles II of Naples (
1254 –
1309), the eldest son and heir of
Charles I of Sicily and
Beatrice of Provence.
