'Mark Boyle' (May 11, 1934 - May 4, 2005) was an artist born in Glasgow and known for his work in the cultural UK Underground of the 1960s around the Traverse Theatre, and latterly in the Boyle Family projects.
While he has been a prolific artist he may be best known for his work in the 1960s doing light shows for the band Soft Machine as a pioneer of light shows in music.
He later toured the USA with Jimi Hendrix and Soft Machine, producing light environments for Soft Machine.
Amongst others he collaborated with George Brecht, Peter Schmidt, Cornelius Cardew, Joan Hill and John Tilbury.
It appears he was also a teacher at English Art Schools.
The Boyle Family's ''World Series'' works meticulously re-created randomly chosen areas and were exhibited widely across the world. The Boyle Family exhibited in the British Pavilion at the XXXIX Venice Biennale.
This is not the same Mark Boyle who was the first (& so far only) Scottish councillor for both the Official Monster Raving Loony Party and the Raving Loony Green Giant Party (he disagreed with the split and so stood as a joint candidate for both parties) during the 1990s.
