EARL OF BREADALBANE AND HOLLAND
(Redirected from Marquess of Breadalbane)
The title 'Earl of Breadalbane and Holland' was created in the Peerage of Scotland in 1681 for John Campbell, 1st Earl of Caithness, who resigned the Earldom of Caithness in favour of George Sinclair in exchange for the new Earldom. The 4th Earl was created ''Marquess of Breadalbane'' in the Peerage of the United Kingdom in 1831, but this title became extinct at the death of the 2nd Marquess (and 5th Earl). The Marquessate was created again for the 7th Earl, but became extinct at his death.
The Earldom has been dormant since the death of the 10th Earl in 1995.
Huba Campbell (born 1945),a four times removed cousin from the 10th earl,
has petitioned the Lord Lyon for recognition of his right to the undifferenced arms.
The claim is disputed between the Hungarian Campbells and a British aristocrat, Sir Lachlan Campbell, a direct descendant of the first earl. The last is apparently unable to succeed because it is said that his line is illegitimate.
