'Massillon Washington High School', is a secondary school located in Massillon, Ohio (2005 enrollment unconfirmed).
Washington High School is nationally famous for its football team, which is featured in the film ''Go Tigers!''. The team, which began play in 1894, has compiled a record of 767 wins; 222 losses; and 35 ties (standings through end of 2005 season). The Tigers play their home games at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium (seating capacity: 18,000; artificial turf); a live tiger cub named "Obie" is on the sidelines for each home game. Massillon's arch rival are the Bulldogs of neighboring Canton McKinley High School. Their meeting is the final game of the regular season each year. It is the only high school contest in America to feature odds in Las Vegas.[1] In 113 meetings (1894-2005), Massillon leads the series 61-50-5.
23 professional players, 3 NFL coaches and 14 collegiate all-Americans graduated from Massillon High School.
Washington High School was voted the Ohio Division I, State Champions title 22 times. Although the tigers have strong and excellent tradition in football, their first playoff-era state title still eludes them; most recently in 2005 they were runner up to Cincinnati St. Xavier in a 24-17 loss in the state championship game.
They have also been recognized as the AP National Champions nine times – in 1935, 1936, 1939, 1940, 1950, 1952, 1953, 1959, 1961 – the most in the nation.
