MAVROCORDATOS FAMILY

'Mavrocordatos' (also 'Mavrocordato', 'Mavrokordatos', 'Mavrocordat' or 'Mavrogordato'; Greek: Μαυροκορδάτος) was the name of a family of Phanariot Greeks, distinguished in the history of the Ottoman Empire, Wallachia, Moldavia, and modern Greece. The family, whose members rose to the rank of Counts of the Holy Roman Empire and ''hospodars'', was a branch founded by a merchant of Chios, where its other branches remained present.

Alexander Mavrocordatos - son of the founder, created Count by Joseph II, Holy Roman Emperor

Nicholas Mavrocordatos - Alexander's son

Constantine Mavrocordatos - Nicholas's son

Prince Alexander Mavrocordatos, grandson of Constantine's younger half-brother
