MAXI (SUPERMARKET)
'Maxi' is a grocery retailer based in Quebec, Canada. Founded in 1984, it is a subsidiary of Loblaw Companies Limited. The chain is the Quebec equivalent of no frills, a chain of franchised "hard discount" grocery stores in Ontario. Maxi briefly entered the Ontario market, but most stores were re-labelled 'no frills'. Over 7,000 people are employed at the 96 Maxi and 16 Maxi & Cie stores across Quebec. [1]
'"Le panier le moins cher"' ("The Lowest Grocery Bill") is the chain's current slogan.
Loblaw announced on November 16, 2006 that 17 Provigo and Maxi stores in Quebec would be closed.
