'Mayarí' is a city in the Holguín Province of Cuba
The municipality of Mayari extends over an area of 1,536 km² and includes the communities of Barajagua, Birán, Cabonico, Cajimaya, Chavaleta Norte, Chavaleta Sur, Guayabo, Juan Vicente, Mateo Sánchez, Punta de Tabaco, Río Frío, Sae-Tia, San Gregorio Norte, San Gregorio Sur and Santa Isabel.
The origins of the city date back to 1757, when the first farms were established on the actual location. On January 19, 1879 the city became the seat of the municipality.
The name of the town figures in the famous song of the 1940s, "Voy para Mayari" by Compay Segundo, Cuba.
