Geography
The town is located just outside Düsseldorf near the Düsseldorf International Airport and Messe Düsseldorf. Further neighbour cities are Neuss, Krefeld, Duisburg, Kaarst and Willich.

It has been an independent city since 1970, when it was created out of the municipalities ''Büderich'', ''Osterath'', ''Lank-Latum'', ''Ossum-Bösinghoven'', ''Strümp'', ''Langst-Kierst'', ''Nierst'' and ''Ilverich''.
