MEMORIAL COLISEUM (CORPUS CHRISTI)

'Memorial Coliseum' is a 5,400-seat multi-purpose arena in Corpus Christi, Texas. It was built in 1953. It hosted local sporting and social events prior to the American Bank Center opening in 2005.
Currently, the Memorial Coliseum has been vacated and the city has considered numerous redevopment ideas. TRT Development, a Dallas company, has submitted a proposal to redevelop the Coliseum and the immediate surrondings as a fair-type property. The proposal was initially accepted by the Corpus Christi city council; however, on May 21, 2006, the ''Corpus Christi Caller-Times'' reported that many members of the city council have second thoughts on the proposal. The project has been intensely criticized by the local residents, primarily due to the inclusion of a bayfront Ferris wheel, which led to the downfall of a similar proposal by Landry's, Inc. to redevelop the city's downtown marina.
