MENTOR-ON-THE-LAKE, OHIO
'Mentor-on-the-Lake' is a city in Lake County, Ohio, United States. The population was 8,127 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.3 km² (1.7 mi²). 4.2 km² (1.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it (1.80%) is water.
Although Mentor-On-The-Lake, Ohio, aka. MOL, Ohio is synonymous with Mentor they are indeed separate and apart . Even some locals at times are unaware that they are two distinct municipalities. They share a zipcode (44060). The local Post Office on Tyler Blvd. Mentor, Ohio. which is in between Hopkins Rd. & Route 615 (aka. Center St.) houses the Post Office Boxes (44061). Mentor-On-The-Lake had a post office of its own at one time although it ceased operation many years ago. Residents of Mentor-On-The-Lake may also receive their mail addressed to their street address with Mentor, Ohio as the listed city of delivery. While originally part of the township and referred to in the 1920's and prior as West Mentor the village government was established October 22, 1924. The US Census for 1970 records the official population as being over 5000 and thus it became an incorporated city on February 12, 1971.
A vast majority of the land that comprises Mentor-On-The-Lake was originally owned and deeded as the Dickey-Moore tract and extended all the way South beyond Route 20 in the city of Mentor. A remnant of this era would be a property known as Mooreland which was once owned by the Moore family and is situated on land that now houses Lakeland Community College.
As of the census of 2000, there were 8,127 people, 3,304 households, and 2,230 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,925.1/km² (4,976.3/mi²). There were 3,405 housing units at an average density of 806.6/km² (2,084.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.15% White, 0.81% African American, 0.07% Native American, 0.65% Asian, 0.30% from other races, and 1.02% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.19% of the population.
There were 3,304 households out of which 31.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.6% were married couples living together, 10.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.5% were non-families. 26.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.46 and the average family size was 3.00.
In the city the population was spread out with 24.6% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 33.9% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 10.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 94.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.7 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $44,871, and the median income for a family was $50,802. Males had a median income of $38,049 versus $26,168 for females. The per capita income for the city was $20,717. About 4.2% of families and 5.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.8% of those under age 18 and 4.6% of those age 65 or over.
