Service on this line began in 1992 as one of Metrolink's original three lines, with service from Moorpark to Los Angeles Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles. The line was extended to Camarillo and Oxnard in 1994 after the Northridge Earthquake
The Ventura County line currently serves 12 stations:

Metrolink trains on this line run weekdays only, mostly during peak commuter hours, with limited mid-day service. Service on this line is augmented during the mid-day and on weekdends with Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner, serving most of the Metrolink stations on the line. As of July 2004, a total of 20 Metrolink trains operate on this route each weekday.
On January 26, 2005, a Ventura County Line train was involved in the Glendale train crash in which eleven people were killed. It was the deadliest accident in Metrolink history [2].
