Endemic Bolivian Birds. Short-winged Grebe, flightless in Ti
www.discoveringbolivia.com Intense Birding with Michael Blendinger Nature Tours, a tradition of good fun for Hobbyist and Specialist. The strongest motivation for these tours is getting to know most Bolivian endemic birds (20 plus other 20 almost-endemics), those of distribution restricted to less than 50.000 km2 (63 species inhabit Bolivia in Endemic Bird Areas or EBAs), the zoogeographical-endemics (238 species occur in Bolivia) and the threatened ones (70 species protected in Bolivia), or simply the most spectacular and interesting wings. We don't neglect the rest of the avifauna (1400 species for Bolivia in total), but the specialties of Bolivia are our priority. Anyway, we maximize the spotting chances by visiting more than 25 Protected Areas at national, departmental and municipal level with professional and well equipped birding guides. The routes were specially designed to achieve this task. We take you to 7 of the 9 EBAs in Bolivia where they concentrate most of the species that we look for, we visit 14 of the 23 Important Bird Areas in Bolivia, plus other 7 potential IBAs, and we go to all the Avian Life Zones according to the Annotated List of the Birds of Bolivia (in our tours of intense Birding we cover heights between 200 and 5.000 m.a.s.l. and precipitations registered between 50 and 5000 mm of annual rainfall). We recommend you to begin at-or-before dawn, in occasions we also continue after dusk. The pause at noon is generaly used to switch to the next town, habitat, lifezone or ecosystem. Playback and spotlights are used moderately according to reactivity of the species, to their susceptibility, season of our visit, the frequency that those techniques are used in each location and to user's desire.

Compaq News Link Satire - 1988
Back in 1988, Compaq Computer Corporation was a raging giant in the worldwide personal computer marketplace, yet still managed to keep the "family feel" among the employees. As an employee at this point in history you still knew the majority of the people you saw in the hallways of your particular building, and every department felt part of the same team, especially the wonderful relationship between Service and Engineering. This video clip, a satire on the quarterly video "Compaq News Link", was made to be shown at a corporate meeting of Compaq Sales Representatives in Houston. Compaq founders and lead employees are featured prominently throughout the video. Of particular interest is the funeral for the original Compaq Portable, attended by many of the engineers and executives who gave it life. I could almost swear some of those tears were real! This is a must see video! Corporate DoubleSpeak jesting at the realities of an emerging marketplace fuel this sometimes dead-on satire of what it was like to be at Compaq "back in the day." Compaq vets, prepare for the flashback!
PaqRap - Compaq Board of Directors, 1990
Here's Rod Canion and (most of) the original Board of Directors for Compaq Computer Corporation, rapping(!) and acting goofy for the cameras in a music video, circa 1990. Why this "Beat Big Blue" video seemed necessary to make is known only to those who participated (if even they can recall). It was a very different time for Compaq back then... Streams of seemingly endless cash flowed like wine through department budgets. Indeed, at this point in history those at the helm of Compaq felt that they could do no fiscal wrong and, for a while, they were right. So, for your musical enjoyment(?), here's Rod and his home boys layin' down some bling bling, fat-cat style, big cigars and all!

Ecce Romani: The Epic Play
Play written by Danus Kimballus (me) and Piscina Cusick for the '07 Latin Banquet Script: Act1 Scene 1 (At the domus, packing up) Narrator: We see the Cornelii on one fine summer afternoon, readying for their trip to Rome. Cornelius: What a wondrous day! How exiting this is! We are leaving the domus for Rome! All: Yay!!! Aurelia: I hope we don't have to stay in an inn, but something tells me we will... Sextus: My mother is dead and my father abandoned me when I was little. However, I have deep affection for Cornelia. Cornelia: Ewwww Narrotor: Unfortunatly, Davus, the head slave, will not be coming. Davus: Bye! I'll look after the domus and brand any slaves that happen to run away while you're gone! Narrotor: Eucliedes, however, will Eucliedes: Hello Marcus. Are you ready for your private lesson? Marcus: (backs away from Eucliedes) Mom, I'm nervous. Aurelia: Man up! Eulciedes: Don't worry Marcus. I like you almost as much as I like books Cornelia: Eulciedes, why don't I get any private lessons with you? Eucliedes: because only boys are worthy of my...expertise. Cornelius: Enough of this banter. It's time to leave for Rome! All: Yay!!! (all walk off, cheering) Scene 2 (In carriage) Narrator: The family is in the carriage, speeding for Rome. Eucliedes tries to maintain some sense of home for the boys Eucliedes: Boys, gather 'round for your lessons Sextus: Do I have to? I want to sit next to Cornelia... Cornelia: Sextus est molestus and smelly Marcus: I really hate all these lessons. Why do I need so many of them? Cornelius: Alright fellow Cornilians, lets play a rousing family game. Eucliedes: I love rousing games! That's just what the boys need. Cornelius: Lets play I spy with my parvus oculus Aurelia: I hate carriages. And Inns. And my family Cornelius: I spy something...with big hair Narrator: Indeed, something is approaching. And it does seem to have big hair Sextus: Cornelia? Cornelia: (groin kick) Tu es fatuus. My hair est pulchra Marcus: Could it be the approaching charioteer? Cornelius: Ita vero! I'm glad my male child is so much smarter than that female thing over there. Cornelia: That's it! I'm jumping out of this carriage! Narrator: But, before she can jump, the charioteer hits the carriage! (Charioteer hits carriage. Charioteer runs away, yelling "Noobs!" Carriage goes off road, into a ditch) Narrator: fortunately, it would seem that all are ok (Everyone gets out, moaning) Aurelia: Oh dear! It would seem that we are in a ditch. I hope we don't have to go to an inn. Those innkeepers are always creepy. Cornelius: Don't worry wifey-difey! We're all safe and sound. Plus we get some quality bonding time. Eucliedes: Isn't that right marcus? Marcus; (moving away) right...how about sextus and I get out of here and go spot some vehicles. Sextus: Can Cornelia some too? Cornelius: No, she belongs in the kitchen. Aurelia: but there's no kitchen here Cornelius: but who's the Paterfamilia? Not YOU, WOMAN! Scene 3 (At the Domus) Narrator: Back at the domus, Davus is enjoying a nice afternoon Davus: (to random slave) isn't it a nice day for a flogging? Random slave: Thanks, but no. I'm gunna go work in the fields...I would keep an eye on Geta though. He's quite the rascal. Davus: Oh Geta...where are you? Geta: (skipping though fields) I'm free! I'm free! Davus: Not on my watch! Slaves, capture him. I will ready the branding iron. For some fun times in the near future. (wields sharpie) Act 2 Scene 1 (vehicle spotting) Narrator: Back in the ditch, Eucliedes tries once again to keep the boys in order. Euclides: Boys, Its time for some math. Now, to solve this problem (holds up poster), will you use your abic-them, or your abic-us? Hahahaha... (boys look at eachother and don't laugh) Marcus: lets spot some vehicles, Sextus Sextus: I'm only spotting Cornelia, looking rather dazzling in that stola...I mean, look at that ox cart. Its quite swell. Marcus: Yeah, you're normal. Cornelius: Boys! Family Conference time! Aurelia: I hate you and your conferences. And Inns. Especially inns Cornelius: So, we've been sitting here for 6 chapters, or roughly 17 hours. How about going to that inn across the street? Aurelia: do you ever listen to me? Cornelius: Did someone say something? Eucliedes: I agree. I need to get into my pajamas. They are sooooo cozy. (Looks at Marcus and licks lips) Sextus: Can all the children get a room...together (Moves towards cornelia) Cornelia: I'm with you mom, lets sleep outside Cornilus: Who said you could speak, girl? Not I! Thank the gods that in book two, you'll leave my house forever when you marry that oddball, Quintus Valarius. Aurelia: Dang you and your inns. I hate you! May Zeus turn you into nonexistent peanut butter! Sextus: (staring at Cornelia) I cant stop thinking about Cornelia. She's as beautiful as Aphrodite. Marcus: You should see Eucliedes dressed like Aphrodite during those private lessons we have. Cornelius: Executive decision: ignore Aurelia, not that that changes anything. Which means we're staying in the inn! Aurelia: NOooooooooooooooo Scene 2 (at domus) Narrator: Back at the domus, the search for Geta continues Davus: (cracking knuckles) Have we found geta yet? Random Slave: I found him hiding in a tree. He actually fell on my head! While I was admiring the beautiful Italian fall foliage. Davus: Ah yes. Those beautiful colors really make me want to brand something. Especially run away slaves. Like Geta Geta: No! Not the FUG! Davus: (Cackle) Your pleas mean nothing. I even punished those two adorable little cornelian hoodlums when they knocked that statue right into the piscina. Random slave: But I'm fine! No statue hit me Davus: Shut it! Noone asked you. (To Geta) Here comes the brand of doom! Nothing can save you now! Geta: NOoooooo Davus: (Crackling, Brands Geta) Geta: Ouch Migrouch! [Goly gee, mister!] I sure learned my lesson. Random slave: (inching towards door the whole time) yes! I'm free I'm free! Davus: Yessssss...another one bites the dust (runs after slave) Scene 3 (At the inn) Narrator: The Cornelii now approach the inn. Aurelia: I hate inns. I hate my husband. Est fatuus Canus Cornelius: I resent being compared to Marcus Marcus; Heeeey Apollodorus: Welcome to my inn! It is soooo nice. And it is soooo clean. It's not like those other inns Aurelia has been hearing about. Aurelia: I hate you and your inn. You say it's clean now, but just wait until Euclides is done with his lessons. Cornelius: (quickly intervenes) let's take a look at these rooms. (all walk in a rather large circle) Apollodorus: here's your exceptionally clean room, Aurelia. I prepared it special, just for you. Aurelia: I hate you, your inn, and your "special" room. This is gross. Replace the bed now. Apollodorus: But it's such a nice bed! I just cleaned it myself! (Aurelia kicks Apollodorus) Aurelia: Replace it now Apollodorus: NO! Aurelia: Who's the patrician? Apollodorus: who's the woman? Aurelia: (groans and storms off) Cornelius. Don't mind her, she's just a woman Scene 4 Narrator: That night, Marcus and Sextus are about to go to sleep Marcus: Goodnight sextus Sextus: I wish Cornelia was here... (Eucliedes, under bed, rarttles it) Sextus: whats that? I bet it's a murderer. Marcus: That or a cat. Shut up and go to sleep. Sextus: Fine. The thought of Cornelia will distract me from that noise. Eucliedes (winks at audience, jumps up, and yells "the End!")
