Plot

It is Halloween at the House of Mouse, and there are a lot of villains showing up tonight (or so Minnie claims). But Jafar has a trick in store for the usual gang, but the villains have to wait until midnight, which is when he will unleash his trick.
After a series of cartoons, Jafar, along with Captain Hook, Cruella de Vil, and Ursula, take over the house by way of a musical number, and all the other villains in the house join in. In the process they trap most of the heroes in the kitchen, throw Mickey and the others out into the street, and change the House's name to the House of Villains, hence the movie's title. In spite of the name change, though, the only few differences are darker lighting and mist hovering on the ground.
Mickey and the rest in turn try to return things to normal, but the villains keep throwing them out. Afterwards, Mickey dresses in his famous sorcerer outfit from ''Fantasia'' and challenges Jafar to a magical duel. Mickey loses, but then Aladdin saves the day by escaping the kitchen and giving Mickey the lamp with which to trap Jafar. Mickey sucks Jafar into said lamp, while the rest of the villains flee like cowards, restoring the House to normal.

Cartoons

Like the show, the film shows several Disney cartoons. In fact, these shorts make up more of the movie than the actual plot with the villains. However, all their title cards are edited out.
Among them, three of the shorts are classic ones:

★ ''Trick or Treat'' (1952)

★ ''Lonesome Ghosts'' (1937)

★ ''Donald Duck and the Gorilla'' (1945)
The other five shorts were all originally broadcast on ''Mickey Mouse Works'' in 1999.

★ ''Mickey's Mechanical House''

★ ''How to Haunt a House''

★ ''Dance of the Goofys''

★ ''Donald's Halloween Scare''

★ ''Hansel and Gretel''

Featured villains

Besides the main villains mentioned in the synopsis, the following Disney antagonists make appearances:

Pete

★ The Lonesome Ghosts

Big Bad Wolf (''Three Little Pigs'')

Stromboli (''Pinocchio'')

Chernabog (''Fantasia'')

The Headless Horseman (''The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad'')

Lady Tremaine (''Cinderella'')

★ Drizella & Anastasia (''Cinderella'')

★ Lucifer the Cat (''Cinderella'')

The Queen of Hearts (''Alice in Wonderland'')

★ The Hitch-hiking Ghosts (''The Haunted Mansion'')

Captain Hook (''Peter Pan'')

Pirates (''Peter Pan'')

★ Crocodile (''Peter Pan'')

★ Si and Am (''Lady and the Tramp'')

Maleficent (''Sleeping Beauty'')

Cruella de Vil (''One Hundred and One Dalmatians'')

Horace and Jasper (''One Hundred and One Dalmatians'')

Mad Madam Mim (''The Sword in the Stone'')

Kaa (''The Jungle Book'')

Prince John (''Robin Hood'')

Madame Medusa (''The Rescuers'')

Mr. Snoops (''The Rescuers'')

Brutus and Nero (''The Rescuers'')

Professor Ratigan (''The Great Mouse Detective'')

★ Fidget (''The Great Mouse Detective'')

Ursula (''The Little Mermaid'')

Gaston (''Beauty and the Beast'')

Jafar (''Aladdin'')

Iago the Parrot (''Aladdin'')

Shenzi, Banzai and Ed (''The Lion King'')

Judge Claude Frollo (''The Hunchback of Notre Dame'')

Hades (''Hercules'')

Pain and Panic (''Hercules'')

★ The Fates (''Hercules'')
Curiously, the Hyenas from ''The Lion King'' make an appearance early on, but Scar does not appear himself. Also interesting to note, Lady Tremaine appears in a few crowd shots, but not in the song itself although her cat Lucifer does, and even though Kaa from the Jungle Book makes an appearance, Shere Khan is absent entirely despite being a more formidable villain. Madame Medusa of ''The Rescuers'' is also absent, even though two clips of her could be seen in the trailer. Iago (reformed in ''The Return of Jafar'') and Anastasia (reformed in '') also appear, despite switching sides in sequels to the movies they appeared in. Also the crocodile from Peter Pan appears despite not being a villain.

Miscellaneous

★ This film is not to be confused with the series episode "Pete's House of Villains".

★ Animation at the beginning of the film (the sequence of Mickey's Halloween jokes) is recycled from the series episode "House Ghosts".

★ During the "It's Our House Now" musical number, Kaa sings a few lines from his song in ''The Jungle Book'', "Trust in Me".

★ 'Goof:' Captain Hook grabs Mickey by the collar at the beginning of the song, but when he sings the line "Every guest gets to the point!", Mickey, or Hooks hat is nowhere to be seen.

★ Shortly before the battle between Mickey and Jafar, a sequence shows all of the villains slowly looking over to Mickey's location. This mimics the Rite of Spring segment in ''Fantasia'', where all of the dinosaurs look towards one direction to see the T-Rex.

★ 'Goof:' Due to an animator's error, the lamp Mickey uses to seal away Jafar actually resembles Genie's lamp rather than Jafar's.

★ Strangely, when Mickey takes out the lamp to seal Jafar away, the other villains run in panic. So, it's unknown if the lamp affects the other villains.
