History

The league was formed as recently as 1994, to provide a single league for the region with a higher quality of football. Its members were drawn from the Midland Football Combination and the West Midlands Regional League, both of which are now feeders to the Midland Alliance, along with the Leicestershire Senior League.
The Alliance sits at step 5 of the National League System, the 9th tier in the overall English football league system. It has traditionally been a feeder to the Southern League, although on occasion it has sent teams up to the Northern Premier League instead.

Cups

The league has two cups, the Polymac Services League Cup which all teams in the league compete in and the Joe McGorian Cup which sees the league cup winners play the league champions. The former has been running since the league began and the latter since 1996. The 2006/07 League Cup winners were Leamington, who will play league runners-up Romulus in the Joe McGorian Cup. Each season awards are also made to the clubs with the best disciplinary record and the best programme.
