MILLARD WEST HIGH SCHOOL
'Millard West High School' is a secondary school located in Omaha, Nebraska.
The school first opened its doors on August 17, 1995. As of 2007, the school principal is Dr. Rick Kolowski. Their school mascot is the wildcat. In 2002, the school was designated as a National Blue Ribbon school of excellence. The school uses block schedules, with 4 blocks each day and 4 semesters a year. Recently, Millard West underwent construction to add a new wing and an addition to the music wing. The project is mostly completed, but a few final touches are needed. Millard West has appx. 2100 students. Millard West offers many diverse clubs and athletics. These range from sports as common as football or baseball, to clubs such as French Club and Photography club. An additional club, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, is not technically sponsored by Millard West, but meetings are announced by the school.
Millard West has one of the highest-ranked music department in Nebraska, and the surrounding region.
→Under the direction of Kathy Simpson and Scott Dugdale, the three show choirs, West In The Grove, Uptown Girls, and Swing Cats, have become some of the most recognized show choirs in Nebraska for their performances. All three of these show choirs are sponsored by Millard West. These show choirs compete in many local and regional events.
→This school is also home to the superiorly rated orchestras and chamber ensembles headed by Mrs. Patricia Ritchie.
→The school hosts three bands headed by Mr. John Keith and Mr. Matt Sheppard. The freshmen are in the concert band, and the upperclassman are divided in to two separate bands according to their performance in an audition. The top band is called "Wind Ensemble" while the lower is the "Symphonic Band." Both the freshmen and upper classmen have their own marching band. Millard West's Varsity Marching Band normally places third in the state. The band currently enjoys a new band room. Competing nationwide, The Millard West Marching Band has received top honors at many competitions. Recently, the band competed at the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.
Famous and Notable Millard West alum include actor Chris Klein (1997) ("Election", "American Pie").
