MINNESOTA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

The 'Minnesota House of Representatives' is the lower house in the Minnesota State Legislature. There are 134 members elected to two-year terms, twice the number of members in the Minnesota Senate. Each senate district is divided in half and given the suffix ''A'' or ''B'' (i.e. House district 32B is geographically within Senate district 32). The state legislature is located in the Minnesota State Capitol building in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
Following the 2004 election, a significant Republican majority of 81–53 was reduced to 68–66. In 2006, the tide turned even further, with the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL) gaining an 85-49 majority.
The House leadership for the 2007 – 2008 session includes Speaker of the House Margaret Anderson Kelliher (DFL-Minneapolis), Majority Leader Anthony "Tony" Sertich (DFL-Chisholm), and Minority Leader Marty Seifert (R-Marshall).

On November 7, 2006 the DFL gained a majority for the first time in eight years, and elected Margaret Anderson Kelliher (DFL-Minneapolis) as Speaker of the House. The Majority Leader is Anthony Sertich (DFL-Chisholm) and the Minority Leader is Marty Seifert (R-Marshall).
Additional key leaders include Reps. Loren Solberg, Lyn Carlson, Joe Atkins, Mindy Greiling Ann Lenczewski, Paul Thissen and Tom Rukavina.

★ On July 17, 2007 Representative Steve Sviggum of district 28B resigned his seat to become Minnesota Commissioner of Commerce and Industry. Steve Drazkowski won the special election on August 7, 2007 to fill his seat.
