MINNESOTA STATE HIGHWAY 252

'Minnesota State Highway 252' is a highway in Minnesota. It is 4.5 miles in length. The highway starts at a northern junction with Minnesota State Highway 610 just after the latter crosses the Mississippi River. Highway 252 travels south, not far from the west bank of the Mississippi River, until its junction with Interstate 94 and Interstate 694.
The route has been part of the Minnesota highway system since 1933. It was originally the routing of U.S. Route 169 coming out of downtown Minneapolis proceeding up to a junction with U.S. Route 52 in Champlin. Highway 169 was rerouted west of that position in 1981, and the route was renamed Highway 252. After Highway 610 was built and as part of the 1988 highway swap, the portion north of Highway 610 was turned back to Hennepin County.
Highway 252 is a busy highway, but is not built to freeway standards. There are signalized intersections along the route, and the intersection of Highway 252 and 85th Avenue North is particularly dangerous for pedestrians to cross. In 1999, a 11-year old girl, Kara Kavanaugh, was struck by a car and killed at the intersection, sparking renewed debate about building a pedestrian bridge in that location.^[2] In 2004, a bridge was finally built in this location, and dedicated to Kara Kavanaugh.^[3]
