MINNESOTA STATE HIGHWAY 9


'Minnesota State Highway 9' is a highway in west-central and northwest Minnesota, which runs from the intersection of Minnesota Highway 23 and Minnesota 9 in New London and continues west and north to its northern terminus at the intersection of U.S. Highway 2 and Minnesota 9 in Fairfax Township (near Crookston).
This highway has two distinct segments (North/South section and an East/West section), connected by U.S. Highway 75 (between Doran and Breckenridge).
Minnesota Highway 9 is 226-miles in length and passes through the communities of:

The eastern terminus for Minnesota 9 is its intersection with Minnesota Highway 23 in New London in west-central Minnesota.
The western terminus for Minnesota 9 is its intersection with U.S. Highway 75 in Doran.
North/South section of Highway 9

The southern terminus for Minnesota 9 is its second intersection with U.S. Highway 75 (immediately north of Breckenridge).
The northern terminus for Minnesota 9 is its intersection with U.S. Highway 2 in Fairfax Township (immediately east of Crookston) in northwest Minnesota.

History


Highway 9 was authorized in 1920 and 1933.
Highway 9 was joined together from three distinctly separate segments.
Highway 9 is the original alignment of U.S. Highway 75 between Minnesota Highway 27 and U.S. Highway 12.
Highway 9 is also the original alignment of U.S. Highway 75 between Minnesota Highway 200 and U.S. Highway 2.
The original terminus of Highway 9 was at Doran. The section of Highway 9 north of Breckenridge was originally designated ''Minnesota Highway 82'' until the late 1950s.
Between U.S. Highway 12 to an old alignment of U.S. Highway 71 at New London, Highway 9 was originally designated Minnesota Highway 23 until around 1940, then called ''Minnesota Highway 17'' until 1963.
The last section of Highway 9 to be paved was the old ''Minnesota Highway 82'' section north of Breckenridge, which was paved by 1961.
