MINOT STATE UNIVERSITY

'Minot State University' ('MSU' or 'MiSU') is a four-year institution of higher learning in Minot, North Dakota. Founded in 1913 as a normal school, Minot State University is the third-largest public university in North Dakota, offering undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
Minot State University's mascot is the Beaver. The school colors are Red and Green (though occasionally Maroon and/or White trim is used). The campus newspaper is called the ''Red and Green''.

History

MSU was established in 1913 as Minot State Teacher's College, a two-year normal school devoted to preparing teachers for service in northwestern North Dakota. In 1924, the institution begain issuing baccalaureate degrees. Over time, the range of academic offerings expanded. In 1964, the school’s name was changed to Minot State College, and in 1987 to Minot State University.

Athletics

Minot State University athletics compete in the Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) which is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
MSU's sports program offers both men's and women's basketball, cross country, indoor/outdoor track and field, and golf, as well as men's football and baseball, and women's volleyball and fastpitch softball.
The Minot State University Beavers won NAIA National Championships in Men's Cross Country in 2002 and 2003, the only team national championships in the school's history.
Minot State University is also home of the Minot State Beavers Club Hockey team, they play within the ACHA.

Facilities

Campus facilities include an ampitheatre, indoor theatre, recital hall, the Gordon B. Olson library, a football field, and the MSU Dome arena. The Student Union includes a bookstore, convenience store, dining center, and lounge areas. MSU has five student residence halls and two apartment complexes.
