'Emerik (Mirko) Derenčin' (Hungarian 'Imre Derencsényi') was the
ban of
Croatia along with Ivan Bot in 1493 during the
Battle of Krbava field.
Derenčin was the commander of the
Hungarian-Croatian troops at this battle near
Udbina against the
Ottoman Empire's forces. It was here that the Croats suffered a devastating loss. Derenčin himself along with several dukes were taken captive and killed. This defeat was one of the worst of the Ottoman-Croatian wars for the Croats and left thousands dead.
